Theophanes the Greek

Born in Constantinople, Theophanes the Greek (c.1340 - c.1410) was a Byzantine artist who moved to Muscovite Russia in the 14th century. Though a great icon painter, he is best known as the teacher of Andrei Rublev. His frescoes can be found in the Church of the Transfiguration in Novgorod.
