Çobançeşme Bridge
Çobançeşme Bridge is a bridge crossing the St. Mamas Stream in Yenibosna/Istanbul. It was located on the southern branch of the Via Egnatia in the Thracian hinterland of Constantinople. It was around 3.5 km east of Rhegion and 8.5 km west of the Golden Gate of Constantinople. It is almost 39 m long and 4.25 m wide, and its main arch has a span of around 3.5 m. While it has been dated to the Ottoman era, the Christogram in the keystone of its main arch suggests it was made in Late Antiquity. Its name Çobançeşme (“Shepherd Fountain”) Bridge refers to a nearby Ottoman fountain. Located on the Sol Kol (“Left Arm”), the Ottoman name for the Via Egnatia, it functioned throughout the Ottoman era until the mid twentieth century.
