Roman Bridge at Kutluca

Taşköprü (“Stone Bridge”) is a Roman bridge near the village of Kutluca in Kocaeli Province. There were marble quarries near Kutluca.

The intact bridge was around 21 km northwest of Nicomedia in historic Bithynia. The bridge, which was still in use until relatively recently, has Roman imperial ashlar masonry with later repairs. It has two smaller arches on each side of the central arch, which is around 8 m wide.

The bridge was on a road that led from Nicomedia to the Black Sea coast around Chele (modern Şile) and the Artanes River (now Türknil River). A section of this Roman road can be found by the village of Yazımanayır in Şile/Istanbul.
