Xerigordos
Çobankale/Yalova
Xerigordos (Ξερίγορδος) was a Byzantine castle in Bithynia on the road from Kibotos to Nicaea in the Drakon Valley. The People’s Crusade was captured at Xerigordos in 1096. Xerigordos probably was the castle Çobankale (Turkish “Shepherd Castle”) in Yalova Province. Tradition also links it to the Battle of Bapheus, whenthe Ottomans defeated the Byzantines in 1303.
